Bremer Bay was named in 1848
after Sir James Gordon Bremer, Captain of the good ship Tamar
Around about the same time John Wellstead, the original
settler, was busy exploring the coastal lands with the intention
of grazing sheep and cattle. The original Wellstead homestead,
now a heritage museum, is situated within a stones throw of
'Beaches'.
Bremer township sits astride the juncture of the shores of
the Wellstead estuary and the western headland which
contains it. The ruggedness of the Southern Ocean stretches
southwards.
No matter which way the wind blows Bremer offers a choice of
8 pristine, sheltered, kid safe beaches , great fishing,
swimming, sunbaking, diving, surfing and from July to
September spectacular displays as whales and their calves
congregate very close to shore.
Bremer is a place to do a lot . . . or nothing . . . a
perfect, unspoiled environment
